Working alongside Esh Group, we are pleased to share that we have completed an impressive landscaping feature at one of the UK’s largest urban regeneration schemes.
A series of nine paddlestone walls, with elegant coping stones, now form the entrance to the park.
We would like to thank Esh Group for appointing us onto this project. It is wonderful to be involved in the transformation of Sunderland Riverside, an area which will be enjoyed by generations to come.
We continue to leave a footprint in this area of the North East, defined by exemplary workmanship and quality products, having undertaken several landscaping projects in and around Sunderland city centre.
Classic Masonry is a specialist in stonemasonry and architectural precast concrete.
We operate across the North of England and 2026 is our 35th anniversary!
Established in 1991, we have undertaken a vast range of amazing projects in conjunction with fellow contractors and clients.
Our reputation continues to grow and we pride ourselves on outstanding workmanship and attention to detail. We are so proud that, with every project we sensitively conserve and repair, we leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.
The Hut On The Green is a little gem nestled in the corner of Gosforth Central Park.
An initiative we were delighted to support by supplying all the paint for a fantastic mural on the outside of the building.
Led by Nick James and a range of local artists it forms a teaching and community hub, offering art classes, workshops and talks for local people. A fantastic location to learn new skills, have fun and make new friends.
Our business development director, Tony Kay, said: “We are really impressed with all Nick and his team offer the local community. A unique location away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the opportunity to immerse yourself in the arts.
"There are very clear synergies with the culture we have at Classic Masonry, in that we encourage our teams to be creative, adventurous and innovative.
“The classes offered at The Hut enable people of all ages to put down digital technologies and engage their hands and minds in valuable skills. Such activity is so rewarding and wonderful for wellbeing, mental health and developing new friendships in a very warm, welcoming environment.
“It is widely recognised we have a skills crisis in the construction sector, particularly within the trades and many companies, such as our own, are doing all we can to highlight the very rewarding careers that can be forged in the sector. We were, therefore, very keen to support craft skills at The Hut on the Green, as it may well encourage some young people to follow a hands-on career in construction.”

Nearly 60 years since his father was first commissioned to provide carvings for the historic banqueting wall at Newcastle Civic Centre, Mike Moody, our managing director at Classic Masonry Ltd, has continued the family tradition.
The connection with the Civic Centre dates to its opening in 1968, when Mike’s father, Terry, and a colleague, meticulously carved more than 26,000 letters and numbers onto the wall to honour the city’s most distinguished citizens and historic figures.
Those honoured on the walls of the Banqueting Hall include Honorary Freemen of the City, such as Nelson Mandela, the retired Bishop Christine Hardman, Sir Bobby Robson, Alan Shearer and Jackie Milburn.
The Banqueting Hall also commemorates the city’s former Lord Mayors, Sheriffs and several skilled sculptors and stone carvers who helped shape the Civic Centre’s legacy, including Terry.
Mike said: “It is a real privilege to continue a family tradition that stretches back decades and to contribute to something so deeply embedded in Newcastle’s history. This project holds specific meaning for me, as my father carved many of the original inscriptions on the Civic Centre’s walls. To now follow him and add to that legacy is something of which I am incredibly proud. My son, Michael, is carrying on the legacy, also, working in the business as an associate director, heading up our design department.
“It is not just about craftsmanship, it’s about honouring the legacy of those who have shaped the city, helped it prosper and added to the Geordie pride. We are honoured to uphold the standards set by those before us and to continue Classic Masonry’s role in marking Newcastle’s historic milestones.”

Classic Masonry is an award winning company undertaking stonemasonry and associated activities since 1991. We offer stonemasonry services involving maintenance, restoration and construction.
After months of painstaking work by our specialist team of Stonemasons and Restorers to bring this superb example of Victorian Architecture in Newcastle back to its former glory, the upper areas of the facade are being revealed. Part of the 1870 plan for this area of Newcastle, Worswick Chambers was constructed in two phases spanning the 1890s. A myriad of eclectic and decorative materials were used to ensure the facade was as decoratively impressive of all the great Newcastle building of the time. New chimneys and extensive stone replacement work was carried out so that much of the historic fabric could be saved and preserved well into the future. We wait in excited anticipation for the full completion of this new development - a stunningly impressive example of bringing together the new and old to achieve architectural harmony. This project is being delivered by Bowmer and Kirkland Construction as part of their Pilgrims Quarter development. ... See MoreSee Less
