Alnwick Gardens

The vision of the Duchess of Northumberland was to create a worldwide visitor attraction in the historic Capability Brown designed garden set in the grounds of Alnwick Castle.  The first phase included the Grand Cascade and was opened to the public in 2020.

The Main Contractor and Client team appointed Classic Masonry to assist with the research and development of the stone elements of the main cascade including stone choice, structural requirements and costing elements to achieve budgets and programme.

Over two hundred metres of complex radiused copings were manufactured at our workshop and installed to the perimeter of the Grand Cascade.  Irish blue limestone was sourced and imported for the ornamental garden pools and several tons of washed beach cobbles were meticulously installed to the rills.  The feature boulder to the entrance of the labyrinth was carefully extracted from the estate’s land and carved by our team of highly skilled workshop masons.
