St Mary’s Cathedral, Newcastle upon Tyne

Classic Masonry is privileged to have had the opportunity to work on this historic cathedral over the course of many years, both to the external environment and the building itself.  We have been delivering a rolling programme of tracery window and glazing repairs alongside major internal re-ordering works including detailed carving of a new section of the extended main altar top. Our latest project involved major repairs and restoration to the existing Presbytery, where previous cementitious repairs had begun to deteriorate and damage the historic masonry. Our team also undertook major repairs to the main south tracery window. To ensure that the restored Presbytery was consistent with the rest of the cathedral’s historic fabric, we supplied and installed two new grotesques that were carefully matched to the existing stones with a little creative license on our part. Our team’s expertise in historic conservation and restoration, combined with our unwavering commitment to quality and attention to detail, resulted in the successful completion of the project.
