The railway station underwent a complete overhaul and re-modelling to create a new ticket office with ancillary rooms and commercial space. The extensive refurbishment included numerous major stone adaptations to doorways and windows within the external envelope of the structure. We also carried out the decontamination, cleaning and traditional lime pointing of the facades whilst working alongside the main East Coast railway line. As part of the restoration requirements, the original fifteen decorative masonry chimney stacks were reinstated onto the building. We used a scaffolding runway system designed to allow movement of each stone component via beams and hoists from scaffold loading bays. These now form the centre piece of the building and can be seen at a distance from across the town.
