Shaken Bridge, North Yorkshire

Classic Masonry was commissioned to undertake the restoration and reconstruction of this major stone bridge that had been severely damaged, and part washed away by winter flooding. The project involved rebuilding the bridge using salvaged stone for one face and new stone for the barrel arch, spandrels, pilasters, and parapet on the other. Our team of skilled craftspeople carefully dismantled the bridge and reinstated the parapet and spandrel walls, copings, forming vaulting and arches, including voussoirs and keystones.  Temporary centering was used to ensure structural stability during the rebuild. Cranage was required for a huge amount of the rebuilding due to the weight of each individual component.  Our qualified crane support personnel were key to ensuring safe and competent lifting operations during the course of the project. The completed bridge has been restored to its former glory, providing a safe and durable crossing for the local community.
